乾燥に見舞われる冬小麦畑（米国カンザス州）

Winter wheat fields were suffered from drying　in Kansas, the US.

本日の写真は、昨年秋に播種された、米国カンザス州の冬小麦畑です。

生産者のアレン氏によれば、昨年晩秋から冬の間はほとんど雨が降らず、同氏の圃場を含むカンザス州の一部は厳しい乾燥に見舞われました（降水量グラフ参照）。

写真①は、乾燥型の天候になる前の、2017年10月に撮影されたものです。

写真②は、その４ヵ月後の2018年2月末頃、土壌を覆っていた氷が6ｍｍだけ溶け、この後、少しだけ雨が降りそうなので、肥料を散布している様子を撮影したものです。

米国農務省によれば、2018年2月末現在、カンザス州の冬小麦の作柄は、良好～やや良好の割合が12％と前年同期（43％）を大きく下回っています。

Today’s photos show a winter wheat field planted last autumn in Kansas, the US.

Mr. Scotto Can Allen, a wheat farmer in Kansas, told that some parts of Kansas, including his fields, had received very little rain between late autumn and winter.

Photo① shows a winter wheat field taken in October 2017, before dry conditions.

Photo② shows the same field 4 month later, in late February 2018.

He told “Got a quarter inch of ice melted off with a little more rain on the way, so decided to put some fertilizer on my wheat”.

According to the Crop Progress by USDA, as of 27 February 2018, 12% of winter wheat in Kansas was rated in good/excellent conditions, 31 percentage points below last year.
